Pause.

Quiet yourself.

Reach out with your mind’s skillful hand.

Let it go inside of me

and touch

God.

Don’t

be shy, dear.

Every aspect of Light we are meant

to know.

The calm hand holds more

than baskets of goods

from the market.

The calm soul knows more

than anything this world

can offer from her

beautiful

womb.

St. John of the Cross. “Peace.”  From Love Poems From God by Daniel Ladinsky.

I go among trees and sit still.

All my stirring becomes quiet

around me like circles on water.

My tasks lie in their places

where I left them, asleep like cattle.

. . .I hear my song at last,

and I sing it. As we sing,

the day turns, the trees move.

Wendell Berry. From “Sabbaths 1979 I.”
