DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Gospel of Thomas \nMay 14 – June 18\, 2024 \n3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. \nChestertown\, Maryland and on Zoom \nOur first and last gatherings for this six week series will be held in person in the spirituality room within Emmanuel Church\, Chestertown.  \nThe four sessions in between will meet on Zoom. \n  \nGather together as we explore and listen to the Gospel of Thomas. Each week we will prayerfully listen to one of Jesus’ sayings from this ancient source and take time to reflect upon what rises for each of us.  \nThe Gospel of Thomas was one of the manuscripts discovered in 1945 when the Nag Hamadi texts were discovered in Egypt. The Gospel of Thomas today is considered by many to be a rich resource for the deepening of a person’s relationship with God and Yeshua. Listening prayerfully to the sayings offers us an experience of Jesus as a wisdom teacher. The Gospel is different from the canonical Gospels of Matthew\, Mark\, Luke and John as Thomas does not offer any type of narrative about the life of Jesus. Instead it contains one hundred and fourteen sayings of Jesus or Yeshua.  Each saying stands alone and offers a great deal of wisdom into the sayings of Jesus and is an invitation to the student of Thomas to go deeper into what is being said. \n  \nPlease register here: https://tinyurl.com/RHTHOMAS\n  \n \nABOUT THE FACILITATOR:  \nThe Rev. Whether you are a family or community member\, a caregiver\, or a pastoral leader\, this topic is universally vulnerable. How can we help one another face the diagnosis of dementia in our families\, among friends\, or in ourselves? \nBrené Brown writes: “Vulnerability is the birthplace of love\, belonging\, joy\, courage\, empathy\, and creativity. It is the source of hope\, empathy\, accountability\, and authenticity.” Let us be reminded of the power of vulnerability\, not to be avoided\, but embraced\, and in embracing taking a first step toward easing our fears. \nWe will explore how the self is never destroyed despite the severity of a disease or condition\, an understanding that comes from many fields\, including psychology\, neurology\, psychiatry\, philosophy\, and spirituality\, among others. All are welcome\, whether you are journeying with a loved one or are an older adult yourself.  We will explore what spirituality might be like for older adults and how spiritual practice in everyday life can enrich and deepen the aging process\, including the process of death and dying. How can spiritual practices guide us and our loved ones to tap into the ultimate meaning in our lives?
