Upon the invitation of three friends, I found myself at an overnight silent retreat led by Benedictine poet Macrina Wiederkehr. Little did I know how instantly she would speak to my heart and at the same time reveal how we are each a beacon for one another, and that our own peace and nourishing light and presence in the world can be cultivated simply by pausing and breathing. Her book, Seven Sacred Pauses: Living Mindfully Through the Hours of the Day continues to inspire me with its abundant offerings of lovely writings and moving poetry, each inviting pause at different interludes in the day. Oh, and my friendships were nourished too!
